What Matters and What Doesn’t

I love the idea of a short, simple “care about list” — both do and don’t.

– I don’t care about doing things I find crass or graceless just for the sake of empty digital rewards or in pursuit of illusory hustle.
– I don’t care about what I refer to in my own mind as the “vortex” of being sucked into chasing empty nothings.
– I don’t care about things that only exist to steal my time or attention.
– I don’t care about tearing people’s lips with my “hooks.”

– I do care about doing the right things with as much beauty and truth as I am able to channel.
– I do care about decency, respect, and trust.
– I do care about meanings and origins.
– I do care about what’s at stake in our choices in actions.

Original credit for the concept to Erin Balsa — she posted about it a while ago. It stuck with me. And now it’s back as I enter end-of-year reflections mode.
