Punxsutawney Phil is a political prisoner!
I hate to break it to you. That’s why I waited until the day after to let you know.
Starting today, he goes back into his glassed-in burrow at a roadside zoo. They keep the lights and temperature steady year-round to make sure he’s not hibernating on 2/2.
He even has competitors. Some of them have better lives. But here’s a picture of a groundhog in the wild. Such is not Phil’s fate.

“If I can with confidence say
That still for another day,
Or even another year,
I will be there for you, my dear,
It will be because, though small
As measured against the All,
I have been so instinctively thorough
About my crevice and burrow.”
— Robert Frost, “A Drumlin Woodchuck”
