I used to be so good at being right all the time. No matter what and no matter how.
For any divergence of opinion, I had the absolutely most correct version of it. And since opinions manifest in words, I was enormously equipped to eliminate incorrect positions.
But I grew out of it for the most part. Over time.
What I think now is that the most radical, even avant-garde, thing is to commit to seeing all sides of an issue. Not conceding to all sides but looking at them with curiosity. And committing to STFU most of the time.
Some people may already do that naturally or by default. For me, it’s probably always going to take a mindful pause and some effort. Untraining yourself as a word fighter is hard!
