I followed the link in an obviously paid-placement article to the lead magnet. It was on a page that wouldn’t load because of my ad blocker and VPN. I used my burner browser to access the page. The landing page demanded my contact info. I used a burner name and address to fill out the form. Then, of course, I had to pick all the photos containing motorcycles to get to a confirmation page letting me know that the lead magnet would be sent to my inbox.
Several minutes later, I got an email with a link to download the lead magnet asset.
Of course, the lead magnet asset is still mostly fluff.
Even more “of course,” I am not at all a prospect for the advertiser and 100% unlikely to make a buying decision. The whole thing was an exercise in curiosity and then stubbornness as I work my way into my Monday with a bit of ambient discovery and a cup of coffee.
However, the advertiser, a provider of marketing services, has already told me more about themselves than they ever wanted me to know.
